Our office worked with all South Australian Government departments to ensure they are equipped with the right knowledge, skills and tools to prevent violence against women - both within the workplace and across our community.
All forms of violence are unacceptable, regardless of gender.
However, evidence shows overwhelmingly that women experience domestic and family violence at higher rates, both in Australia and around the world.
The Workplace Equality and Respect (WER) Project aimed to prevent violence against women by addressing the social conditions that cause it.
The role of workplaces
Workplaces have a vital role to play in preventing violence against women through promoting gender equality.
The activities of the WER project focussed on:
- women’s equal participation in the workforce
- respectful relationships between men and women in the workplace
- breaking down harmful stereotypes about men’s and women’s roles at work and in society.
To drive these outcomes, all State Government departments developed a Gender Equality and Respect Action Plan.
The Project also ensured all South Australian Public Sector employees have access to the right support and assistance if they are experiencing domestic or family violence.
